Integrity.
Do your actions match your words?
Great leadership is built on trust. And a surefire way to undermine trust is to say one thing, but do something else.
This isn’t just about being honest and transparent. Lack of integrity can also show up in some sneaky ways:
→ You encourage your team to step away from their computers outside of work hours, but yet you send them emails at 11pm.
→ You demand absolute precision from your employees, but yet your in-house emails are riddled with typos.
→ You talk a good game about self care, but yet you show up to work exhausted, snippy, and run ragged.
→ You talk about a culture of accountability, but you have a hard time apologizing for your own errors.
→ You offer copious feedback to your team, but yet you never solicit feedback on your own work.
When your words and actions don’t match, you are out of integrity.
Try running an integrity self-audit focusing on your own words and actions. How did you do?
(PS — if you have trouble recognizing this in yourself, you’re not alone! Building this awareness is part of the work I do with my clients. If this sounds like it might be you, reach out. )
